What do I need to install when I sign up for Office 365?
You don't need to install anything in order to use Office 365.
To help you connect your desktop version of Office to Office 365, Microsoft provides Office 365 customers an installable piece of software — called “Office Desktop Setup” — at no charge.
Office Desktop Setup provides many benefits, including:
- Automatically detecting necessary updates.
- Installing updates and components upon approval, or silently from a command line.
- Automatically configuring Outlook and Microsoft Skype for Business for use with Office 365.
If your plan includes a subscription to Office, you can also install it directly from the Office 365 administration center.
Should I consider using a Hybrid Cloud?
A hybrid cloud is a combination of a public cloud provider and a private cloud platform. The private and public clouds are arranged together but operate in a distinct and independent function.
Some of the benefits of using a hybrid cloud are:
- More control across both private and public cloud.
- On-premise private infrastructure accessible without using the public internet.
- Computational infrastructure that supports your workload.
- Flexibility in building server designs.
With hybrid clouds, companies gain the flexibility of rapid storage at a relatively lower cost.

What is the difference between Backup and Disaster Recovery?
It is crucial for a business of any size to protect its data. To have full protection, you should implement both a data backup and a recovery plan.
Backup takes care of your data by saving it in a well-secured location — on-site or off-site — and bringing it back when you need it again.
Disaster Recovery replicates your entire data, applications, networks and systems, and makes them available whenever your primary environment is unavailable.
Do we still need assistance even if we already have an in-house IT department?
That won't pose a problem at all. In fact, most of our customers have their own IT support staff and departments responsible for day-to-day technical issues, but they still rely on us for their most critical IT support services.
Comlink has been a trusted technology advisor guiding clients with the best strategies. Take a look at our managed services for more information.
